The Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA is the latest generation of intelligent airbag systems from Alpinestars – developed for ambitious motorcyclists who refuse to compromise on safety, comfort, and technology. Thanks to industry-leading protection technology, this system offers maximum safety for the entire upper body – in an ultra-light, slim design that can be worn discreetly under any jacket.
At the heart of the Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA is a sophisticated algorithm that includes three different riding modes: STREET, OFF-ROAD, and RACE. A simple two-second press of the system button allows you to switch between modes with ease. A solid green LED indicates the active riding mode – for maximum adaptability to a wide range of riding situations.
The LED button allows for easy system checks at any time: a quick press of the button is all it takes, and a noticeable vibration confirms that the system is fully functional.
Weighing only 1530 g, the Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA is the lightest airbag in the Tech-Air® series – over 25% lighter than its predecessor.
The ultra-thin, single-layer stretch mesh used on the collar, underarms, and front section ensures outstanding breathability and a perfect, adaptive fit. Ergonomically shaped sleeves with a deeper cut in the underarm area offer additional freedom of movement, while the extended back cut with contoured neckline increases comfort and minimizes skin contact with the material.
The design has also been specially tailored to the ventilation systems of Alpinestars jackets – for optimal airflow even on hot days.
The airbag itself is anatomically designed to fit precisely to the contours of the body while significantly increasing the area of protection. Strategically placed cutouts allow for maximum mobility and reduce material volume – while providing excellent impact protection for the chest, back, neck, ribs, and shoulders.
The integrated protection system consists of the innovative Nucleon PLASMA back protector, a viscoelastic compound injected with advanced elastomers. The result: an ultra-slim, lightweight, flexible profile that fits perfectly to the body and the electronic unit – virtually invisible under the jacket.
The system provides active protection for up to six deployments before replacement is required. The quick-release cover allows easy access to the gas inflator for quick, independent replacement (in countries where this is permitted by law). The use of plastic components has been minimized to keep weight low while maximizing air circulation and freedom of movement.
The passive back protector is CE certified according to EN 1621-2: Level 1 and offers four times the protection of conventional passive protectors.
